Evergreen Academy Curriculum

The Evergreen Way

At Evergreen Academy, we believe education should nurture the whole child—mind, body, and spirit. We draw inspiration from a variety of philosophies such as Montessori, Charlotte Mason, and others, weaving them together to create an approach that is hands-on, learner-driven, and rooted in real life.

A Balanced Foundation

We follow the Ontario curriculum standards to ensure every student is prepared—if not ahead—for high school and beyond. Core subjects such as Math and Literacy are emphasized, while Science, World Studies, and Social Studies are intentionally woven throughout daily learning. In the younger years, we use FUNdations to support early literacy, and in Math, we use SAXON to provide a strong, progressive structure.

Hands-On, Real-Life Learning

We bring learning to life with meaningful experiences that teach responsibility, independence, and critical thinking. Students engage in:

  • Growing food and tapping maple syrup

  • Sewing, cooking, and financial literacy

  • Public speaking, debate, and Socratic dialogue

  • Organization, communication, and “I-messages” for emotional regulation

  • Fire-building, shelter-making, fishing, and living off the land

These experiences develop problem-solvers who are capable, confident, and resilient.

Enrichment Programs

Our curriculum extends far beyond the classroom. Students participate in:

  • STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Art, Math)

  • Music & Visual Arts

  • Physical Education & Daily Fitness – promoting lifelong healthy habits

  • Life Skills – from economics and responsibility to caring for personal spaces

Learning Beyond Walls

With 44 acres of natural land, the outdoors is our greatest classroom. Nature exploration, outdoor challenges, and seasonal projects foster creativity, resilience, and a love for the environment.

Socratic, Learner-Driven Approach

We emphasize critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent learning through guided exploration and goal-setting. Students are encouraged to ask questions, seek solutions, and take ownership of their education.

Partnership with Families

We see parents as the first and most important teachers of their children. At Evergreen, education is co-created with families to support each child’s unique goals, strengths, and challenges. Each student has an individualized plan that ensures they are seen, supported, and inspired.

This is The Evergreen Way: a community of curiosity, character, and growth.

  • “Study the science of art. Study the art of science.”

Leonardo Davinci - for STEAM inspired education

  • “Today’s education system does not focus enough on teaching children to solve real-world problems and is not interdisciplinary, nor collaborative enough in its approach....(STEAM) is the type of education we need”

Naveen Jain - Founder World Innovation Institute

  • The mind is capable of dealing with only one kind of food; it lives, grows and is nourished upon ideas only; mere information is to it as a meal of sawdust to the body.

    Charlotte Mason

  • Our highest endeavor must be to develop free human beings, who are able of themselves to impart purpose and direction to their lives.

    Rudolf Steiner - Waldorf Education

  • “The greatest gifts we can give our children are the roots of responsibility and the wings of independence.”

    Maira Montessori

  • “The child has a different relation to his environment from ours… the child absorbs it. The things he sees are not just remembered; they form part of his soul. He incarnates in himself all in the world about him that his eyes see and his ears hear.”

    Maira Montessori

  • “The question is not,—how much does the youth know? when he has finished his education—but how much does he care? And about how many orders of things does he care? And, therefore, how full is the life he has before him?”

    Charlotte Mason

  • Nature is a tool to get children to experience not just the wider world but themselves
